Klassiek op de Campus 2019

Klassiek op de Campus 2019

On June 2nd, the newest premier music festival will take place in Eindhoven. 2017 was the last time Muziek op de Dommel was held on the campus of the TU Eindhoven. Now, 2 years later, there is a new festival with a new coat of paint.

The entire day is filled with music. On 3 different stages, there are performances throughout the day, given by highly skilled musicians. There is a singing workshop, for every who thinks (or doesn’t think) they can sing. And a children’s corner, where even the smallest can learn how fun it really is to play an instrument. In short, a day of fun at Klassiek op de Campus!

Journey through the Cosmos

Journey through the Cosmos

On Saturday the 6th of April 2019 at 8pm, wind orchestra Auletes, conducted by Paul van Gils, will give a special concert together with famous astrophysics professor Vincent Icke. Auletes will perform music in the theme ‘the universe’, while Vincent Icke will provide insights in the current state of knowledge within this subject.
For years, the universe has been a big source of inspiration for composers. Pieces such as ‘Mars’ and ‘Jupiter’ from Gustav Holst and ‘Mercury’ from Jan van der Roost fit perfectly in the theme. Thomas Doss’ ‘Sidus’, a beautiful piece about space travel, will fill in this evening even further.
The evening will result in a magnificent combination of music and science, which will take you on a journey through the cosmos.

All this will result in an evening where science will be connected to classical music, taking you on an exciting journey through the universe.

The following works will be performed:

The Planets: Mars, the Bringer of War Gustav Holst
The Planets: Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity Gustav Holst
Mercury Jan van der Roost
Sheltering Sky John Mackey
Sidus Thomas Doss

Prof. dr. Vincent Icke is an astrophysicist, artist, designer and writer. Besides being active in pure research, he attempts to make science accessible and understandable for the general public. He is a regular guest on broadcasting programs, such as Nieuwsuur and De Wereld Draait Door. His publications have appeared in leading scientific journals, and in daily and weekly papers. Icke wrote over a dozen books and appeared in several cd-videos. His expertise as an artist boosts the imagery of his presentations.
